Vaginal Infections
At CleCare, we take female health and wellness seriously. That is why knowing and understanding vaginal infections is so important. Vaginal infections are a common occurrence and can cause a range of uncomfortable symptoms. CleCare Urgent Care provides timely and reliable treatment options for most vaginal infections including bacterial vaginosis (BV) and vaginal candidiasis (VC), two of the most common types of infection.
Bacterial Vaginosis is an imbalance in the natural bacteria that normally lives within the vagina, which can be caused by anything from sexual activity to douching or using scented products on the area. Symptoms may include redness, itching, pain during urination and sex, as well as an unpleasant odor. To treat BV, our providers typically prescribe antibiotics such as metronidazole or clindamycin which may be taken orally or as a topical cream.
Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by the overgrowth of yeast. It often results in itching, burning, discharge and pain during urination or intercourse. Treatment for vaginal candidiasis involves antifungal medications such as miconazole and clotrimazole which again may be taken orally or as a cream.
To determine which type of infection may be present, providers will perform a physical examination of patients and offer treatment accordingly. Additionally our provider's are able to provide education on how to avoid vaginal infections in the future with preventative measures like avoiding douching, wearing breathable underwear and avoiding scented products near the vaginal area.
