FAQ

  • What Is a Leveraged ETF?
A leveraged ETF is an exchange-traded fund designed to track an index and amplify its daily returns, often by two or three times. As an exchange-traded fund, a leveraged ETF is a group of securities designed to track a specific index. The ETF shares can be traded like stocks, but the shares represent partial ownership, similar to how mutual fund shares work. A leveraged ETF gives investors the ability to increase their exposure without additional capital outlay, and this comes with additional risk and returns. Investors can find leveraged ETFs for most indexes. This includes the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq-100.
  • How Does a Leveraged ETF Work?
The purpose of leveraged ETFs is to amplify the daily returns of an index instead of simply matching the index's performance. This is an important distinction between a traditional ETF and a leveraged ETF. A leveraged ETF resets each day, which compounds the fund's gains and losses. For this reason, financial advisors do not typically recommend holding leveraged ETFs for long periods. For example, say an investor buys a share of a leveraged ETF with a 2:1 ratio for $100. If the share goes up 10% over the day, the investor gains 20%. The ETF resets the next day, and the investor earns $20. If the share drops 10% the following day, the value falls to $96. Although investors stand to realize amplified gains through leveraged ETFs, the same compounding effect amplifies losses as well.

  • Position Sizing
We pick stocks that can move up 10% to 20% or more in a short time. They can also move down fast. Stocks can sometimes move past your stoploss in afterhours. That is why position sizing is arguably the most important part of being a sucsesfull trader. Don't ever put all your money in one Trade signal and never risk money you can't afford to lose. There are many ways people use for position sizing. Some people have a set dollar amount. They trade a fixed amount like $1000 on every trade. I like to divide the amount of money I want to invest in 10 parts. This is easy because you just have to move the decimal point over one. For instance, if I have $1000 to invest, I would bet $100 on each trade. If I have $5400. I would bet $540 on each trade. You can also make have the amount trades.
